Goldendoodles - The Superior Family Dog

Goldendoodles are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They were first bred in the early 1990’s with the purpose of giving families the great combination of the family friendly dog, but with little to no shedding. Golden Retrievers year in and year out are a top dog for families but with their constant shedding they do not mix well with those that have allergies. Poodles on the other hand are hypoallergenic and for most do not cause allergic reactions. For this cause the Goldendoodle was born, creating the perfect dog for families! With Goldendoodles you get the wonderful personality traits of the Golden Retriever that everybody loves, and you get the hypoallergenic and intelligent features of the Poodle.

THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT GENERATIONS OF GOLDENDOODLES.

The “F” stands for “Filial Hybrid”, this just means a dog that came from 2 purebred dogs. The number stands for the generation the dog is. The “b” stands for “back-breeding” to one of the purebred breeds.

  • An F1 Goldendoodle has one parent who is 100% Poodle and another parent who is 100% Golden Retriever. This makes a dog that is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever.

  • An F1b Goldendoodle has one parent who is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever and another parent who is 100% Poodle. This makes a dog that is 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever.

  • An F1bb Goldendoodle has one parent who is 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever and another parent who is 100% Poodle. This makes a dog that is 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Golden Retriever.

  • An F2 Goldendoodle has both parents that are 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever. This makes a dog that is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever.

  • An F2b Goldendoodle has one parent who is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever and another parent who is 100% Poodle. This makes a dog that is 62.5% Poodle and 37.5% Golden Retriever.

  • An F2bb Goldendoodle has one parent who is 62.5% Poodle and 37.5% Golden Retriever and another parent who is 100% Poodle. This make a dog that is 81.25% Poodle and 18.75% Golden Retriever.

Basically the more Poodle the Goldendoodle has the less likely it will shed. F1’s and F2’s are the most likely to have a coat that sheds and is inconsistent. F1b’s, F2b’s, F1bb’s, and F2bb’s have a more consistent curly coat that sheds very little to none. But Goldendoodles are mixed breeds so their coat varies from dog to dog. Some puppies, even in the same litter, will have varying coat types.

THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT SIZES OF GOLDENDOODLES.

Due to the fact that they are crossbred and backbred they can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Here is a list of the categories and sizes Goldendoodles come in.

  • Standard Goldendoodle - 20 to 24 inches in height and weighs 50 to 90 pounds.

  • Medium Goldendoodle - 17 to 20 inches in height and weighs 40 to 50 pounds.

  • Miniature Goldendoodle - 13 to 20 inches in height and weighs 15 to 35 pounds

GOLDENDOODLES ARE EASY TO TRAIN!

Because they have the intelligent traits of the Poodle these pups often can be trained easily. At The Real Doodle Co. we start training our Goldendoodles very early on things like going potty outdoors, sleeping in a crate, not barking at sounds like doorbells and knocking, interacting with other dogs and animals, interacting with humans of different ages, and more. These pups go to their new homes having started healthy and helpful habits that will continue for a lifetime.

GOLDENDOODLES ARE GREAT WITH KIDS!

There’s a huge reason Goldendoodles are all the rage, it’s because they are great with children. They have such a sweet, loving, and loyal disposition about them that makes them the best dog you could ever dream of. Your child will remember the days growing up with their best friend, their dog, and if that dog is a Goldendoodle, well let’s just say those childhood memories are going to be extraordinary.

GOLDENDOODLES ARE JUST AWESOME!!

One of our dogs at The Real Doodle Co., Mia, is an F1 Godlendoodle and she is the perfect dog! She loves people, she plays fetch, she is happy (she literally smiles), she is just all around a great dog. One time we had a tree fall in our back yard and knock down a portion of our fence. A couple of our dogs got out and were running the streets, but not Mia! She went directly to the front door and sat there and wouldn’t let any intruders, even the neighbors that were trying to help get the dogs back inside, in the house. She was protecting her home! She was never trained to do this, she just did it. This is a testimony of how great and truly awesome Goldendoodles are. They are smart, loving, loyal, happy, and just all around the best dog ever!
